Are you thinking, do you really need a website in 2020? The short answer is YES!
Times continue to change. But if you run a business, it’s still in your best interest to have a website. If you don’t have a proper website, you could be losing hundreds of potential customers.
When people search for you online, it’s important that you have a site if you want to be found. There’s no set rules or limits to what you can do with a site. It can be as simple or as technical as you’d like. With your own site, you are in complete control of how your customers see you online and that’s important.
Do my customers expect me to have a website?
Yes! Many consumers expect to find the information they’re looking for on a companies official website. By having a website, you’re making it easier for customers to find the information they need from a source they can trust. When you have a website, you’re also in control of your visitors experience. By effectively optimizing that experience, you can turn visitors into paying customers.
I have a Facebook Page, I don’t need a website!
This is a common misconception. It’s a good idea to have a Facebook Page for interacting with your customers, but it’s important that you have a real website to showcase your business how it’s meant to be done. We rely on Facebook for almost everything these days, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to use a Facebook Page in place of a real website. With all the data breaches and privacy concerns of social media, more and more people are turning away from social media giants like Facebook.
The fact is, you’re not in control of your customer’s experience on Facebook – Facebook is in control! And let’s be honest… No one wants to deal with login screen popups, ads, and whether or not their private information is being hijacked when trying to learn about your business.
If you’re using a Facebook Page in place of a real website, you’re also missing out on organic search engine traffic as well as key metrics that could benefit you even further.
I have a free website through my business listing or merchant partner, I still don’t need a “real” website!
Well, it’s a start, but not a great one… Unfortunately, “free” websites provided by business listings or merchant partners are very ineffective. They are often times quickly thrown together as a bonus incentive to another service that you’ve purchased, so the end result is a poor, unprofessional looking website.
It’s also not uncommon to find outdated information on these “free” websites and If that’s the case, good luck trying to get it updated. What’s even more shocking is some business owners don’t even know they have one of these “free” websites or what information is posted on them.
At this point, you may be wondering why I keep putting free in quotations… Here’s why; the companies that offer these “free” sites usually pack them full of ads, which means they’re making money from YOUR customers! No wonder it was free, right? They are only out to benefit themselves.
So you see, it’s not really free… It’s “free” because you’re paying for it by allowing them to advertise to YOUR customers.
The bottom line is you NEED to be in control of your own website if you want to appear professional and have consumers take you seriously. You control your business, don’t let someone else control how you are seen online.
So what should I do?
Get a website! One that you are in total control of. Whether you decide to build it yourself or hire an affordable website designer to build it for you, there’s no good reason not to have a website going into 2020. It’s still a necessary part of business and will prove to be a wise investment, if properly done.
